ISLAMABAD: The Private Medical Colleges Association (PMCA), while challenging authority of the new body of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), has said decisions of PMDC cannot be implemented until parliament passes amendment bill to define its power. A PMCA meeting was held on Sunday and participants from all over the country attended the meeting. PMCA President Dr Azhar Jadoon chaired the meeting. A resolution was passed in the meeting which asserted that private sector contributed 80 percent in health department across the country while as powerless body cannot dictate this vast industry. It said that this powerless body cannot be allowed to destroy private health sector. The resolution demanded that PMDC take PMCA into confidence while taking any decision and if it is not consulted, the association would not implement council’s unilateral decisions. Jadoon said that the Health Ministry has introduced a bill regarding PMDC and the National Assembly has passed it but the Senate still needs to pass it. He said PMDC with its new SROs wanted to destroy future of thousands of medical students which is unacceptable. PMCA General Secretary Dr Abdul Qadir said that PMDC is associated with PMCA and vice versa, therefore all decisions must be taken with mutual understanding. He said further it would be unfair to neglect the private sector.
