MINGORA: Counter Terrorism Department and local police foiled a major terror plot in Mankial Badoran area of Swat on Friday by recovering explosive material including an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and other elements, enough to wreak havoc in the area, official sources said.
Police sources said that unidentified miscreants had hidden an IED, over five kilogrammes of explosives, five metres of prima cord, two pairs of gloves, 6 used bottles of glue, two batteries, an electric scale, a pressure cooker, a small size drum and other items in Mankial Badoran area of the district.
A few days ago, at least five police personnel had sustained injuries when an IED struck a police patrolling vehicle in the area. Police also started a search operation to hunt down unknown perpetrators.
Militants arrested: Meanwhile, CTD personnel arrested two terrorists from Upper Dir and Khwazakhela area of the district. An official press release issued here said a terrorist identified as Muhammad Zahid alias Zakariya was apprehended from the main bazaar in Upper Dir. The militant was wanted to police in the 2009 Hayagai Mosque attack. At least 33 people had been killed and 10 others injured in the mosque attack.
Similarly, another militant Bedar Bakht was arrested by the CTD during an operation at Khwazakhela Bazaar. The arrested terrorist was wanted to the police in the killing of Waqar Ahmad in Nangolai area in 2005. Following the arrests, the terrorists were shifted to undisclosed locations for interrogations.
